A is for Ameliorate which means to become better.
Choosing this word was not random. I had another choice “Acerbic” but the meaning for ameliorate was perfect for me to begin this #AtoZchallenge of 2018.
Being better can be seen as breaking through the barrier we have set. Inching higher and higher gives us the confidence to attain a new achievement. While this sounds so good, there’s something more important than that. That important aspect is TRY.
Sure we can get better and we can also fail to beat our previous best. The only way you’ll know is when you try and take the first step. Many live by that one hit song, that one time they were first, that they once won the race and live in that memory. They don’t try again whatsoever thinking they could never beat that milestone.
That’s where we go wrong. We would never know what’s in store for us until we make a move. I’ve read a lot of stories and they all speak the same thing I.e. make your own mistakes but do something. Do not have a regret.
I also happen to remember a famous dialogue from the movie 3 idiots. There, one friend speaks to another saying, “Take the first step today and speak to your parents. Tell them what you really want to do. If you don’t do this today, then it’s a possibility that 20 years down the line you’ll regret this memory thinking about how different your life would be had you just talked to them”.

Perfect way to start this challenge, I agree. For me too, the word has significance. I am always in competition with my past self, trying to improve. Even if I have won a contest, I usually participate the next time with the aim of trying to do better.

Loved the word! And yes, to be better is to do something more than I have already done. It isn’t a straight way up ahead. There are mistakes ND detours to be taken.
