Wedding budget

B is for Budget – A to Z Challenge 2021

Budget kya hai?

Whether it’s wedding planning in Mumbai or any part of India, this will be the first question you will face.

In the past couple of years, I’ve seen a lot of weddings. Right from the wedding dresses to the wedding invitation card, everything must be detailed and perfect. And we know that such detailing comes at a cost.

Who knew that wedding stage decoration and a wedding background are not added in every hall/ground costing? I certainly didn’t know that. Many bubbles burst when I saw a friend’s marriage and the cost.

Hence I realized there are so many things that one must consider while wedding planning.

Here are some of the major pointers:

1. Number of events and guests – Yes, it sounds not so important but during budgeting, having clarity on this would help you plan a wedding budget with ease. More guests = Increased budget. COVID-19 restrictions might limit your count (50-100).

2. Choose a venue – Venue is important. Choose between a hall (AC or non-AC) or an open-air ground. If you have a farmhouse, space that can be utilized, you’ll be saving a lot of money.

3. Food – Few patrons come just for the food. Do focus on this aspect too as a bad experience here might end up in bad memories for the crowd. Adding items per plate will increase your cost.

4. Honeymoon – Well it’s your wedding so why not plan a honeymoon too with the cost. Create a budget for the visa, flights, hotels, shopping, etc.

5. Rent/Property buying – Finally, keep a certain portion of the budget based on your property choice – Buying or renting. Having a buffer fund will only help you start your marriage minus hassle.

There are other costs as well but I thought of adding the 5 most important costs that one can focus on! (I’m still confused if I should have added wedding dresses to this list)

What are my thoughts on the wedding budget?

Firstly plan your stay options post-marriage. If you wish to buy a property or have enough funds post-marriage, go ahead with an intimate function. That will give you clarity on your wedding budget.

You can call close friends, family and hold the wedding ceremony. With COVID-19 still looming around, it’s not safe to call many people and risk their health.

In the end, it’s your wedding, do it in a way you prefer, as per your budget, and minus any regrets!

What do you think about the importance of a wedding budget? Did I miss out on any point that you wish to add?

wedding advice for the couple

A is for Advice – A to Z Challenge 2021

Did you know what tops more than getting marriage wishes and marriage anniversary wishes?

Wedding advice for the couple!

While I’m not married yet, over the years I’ve seen tons of advice been given to the couple. Whether it’s for the functions or the D-Day, most of this so-called wedding advice is annoying and uncalled for.

But kya kare – Hum hai aadat se majboor right?

I remember watching an aunt describe to her nephew (my friend) how important it is to provide an extra appetizer on the plate. If he wouldn’t do that then people would talk shit about the food and wedding!

Can you imagine, not getting an extra appetizer would mean that the wedding is shit! My friend didn’t want that because adding extra options meant that his budget would go up! (This was pre-COVID-19 when you could call 500+ for the main event.)

Long story short, he ended up getting tons of wedding advice such as,

1. Importance of a grand entry during the reception,

2. Need of keeping a bar counter and spending on booze,

3. Getting an AC hall to show class!

4. Classy wedding cake designs, and much more.

What are my thoughts on wedding advice?

Times are tough in 2021! While many can take the help of their parents to have a lavish wedding, others might not be able to afford it. It’s a lot to do with salary cuts, job losses, and loss of savings.

Many young couples genuinely want to fund their wedding, do the whole wedding planning and hence stick to a budget.

Hence if you cannot provide a lavish spread in food or cannot add that extra appetizer, it’s fine. You do what pleases you. It’s your special day. Plan it how you want it to be remembered.

Wedding advice for the couple I gave?

I once had asked a close friend to save enough for the wedding + expenses for the 1st year (knowing how her lifestyle was). Also, I suggested that they stay separately post-marriage (theirs was an inter-caste marriage).

Have you ever given wedding advice for the couple? Maybe they are either your friends/family? Let me know what advice was it!

A is for Addicted – A2Z Challenge 2019

Addiction is the first post in the series of the A to Z challenge!

Addicted.

Mary just couldn’t understand why her son Dean has to always have his eyes glued to his smart phone. She always thought a smart phone was supposed to make life easier but in her son’s case, it seems he got addicted to it.

Dean on the other hand loves playing games, streaming YouTube videos, being online throughout the day. So much that he forgets even the regular errands he has.

On another regular weekend, Mary had asked Dean to get some medicines for her as she had a throbbing headache which just wouldn’t leave her. As usual, Dean forgot as he got immersed watching another episode on Netflix. By the time he realized what had happened, he heard his Mother say ” I have no hope in you. I don’t need your help anymore”.

What just happened?

A mother got her heart broken as she expected her son to choose her health over his smart phone. The son on the other hand really wanted to help but forgot as his show on Netflix became more important.

What could have been?

It’s tough but for once, Dean could keep his phone aside and talk to his Mom. So much can happen when we just talk no? Help her with the dishes once, get her medicines, give her a call randomly once a day asking her if she is okay or she needs something?

Mothers don’t ask for more. Can’t we give them little attention?
