Book Review – Private India

A city that never sleeps…

A wicked serial killer who hates women…

A corrupt system…

And

One guy who dares to stop him

This is a classic James Patterson plot.

And I like it as I have liked his other ventures.

With the help of fellow author Ashwin Sanghi, this book gave me as a Mumbaikar, an altogether different feeling.

The storyline being set in Mumbai gave me more benefits in terms of visual referencing as I could make out majority of the places mentioned in the book.

This couldn’t be done in his previous books. 😛

Also, the story is set during the Navratri season. Guess what? As I’m typing this, we are in the middle of the Navratri season. So the book reading experience goes up to an all together new level for me.

Anyways, the story is set up this time in Mumbai, as “Private” officers try to decode the prolific cases in the country, without the ordinary public knowing much about them.

This time, they handle a serial killer, whose specialty is only with killing females.

Also the perpetrator gives the murder an artistic look, with some random prop’s which won’t make sense to you and me unless we break our heads together and search for a pattern.

The killings seem to be on a random basis. Santosh Wagh, the head of “Private India” alongside his team are always 2 steps behind the killer.

It’s almost as if the only way they can track the next victim is post her death!!

Private Officers then try various angles, which also makes them enter the forbidden territory of the rich and influential people who have their derriere insured by the politicians.

Of course they get some clues but to link them become a problem. But to use them, means raising alarm bells which ain’t a good sign for them. With majority of police officers under the payroll of the politicians, it gets tough to cough up information and leads in order to solve the case.

Also, the killer seems to be in no mood to stop these murders.

In the later stage of the story, although through co incidence but Santosh cracks up a pattern courtesy of Goddess Durga.

The killer seems to be using the props which are seen in the 9 forms of Goddess Durga.

So this makes clear to the officers, that there would be 9 murders and all of women. The only negative aspect is that by the time this news is out many women had been killed.

Now, for the first time, the cops know something and can work on the lead. They keep up their work, connecting the dots to all the victims.

The climax shows Santosh Wagh and his team cracking the pattern alongside the relation between all the victims.

By that, they make out the name of the killer and the last target who happens to be Nisha, an officer from Private India.

Santosh and his team try their best till the very end derailing all problems right from politicians to corrupt cops who try to thwart their plans to catch the killer.

But “Private India” officers are no small time officers, and they prove this by beating all odds and saving their own Nisha from the grasp of the killer.

The ending shows a rather disturbed Santosh thinking of quitting “Private India”.

You will find it tough to connect the dots until the very last chapter.

But it will be fun when you rattle your mind to find the killer and the motive behind the killings.

Go ahead.

Knock yourself out.

Read it.

Well done Ashwin Sanghi & James Patterson!!

Quotes from the book “The Fault In Our Stars”

Some lines from the book “The Fault in Our Stars” which I liked;

When Augustus explains Hazel why he keeps an unlit cigarette in his mouth.

“It’s a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do its killing.”

When Augustus explains Van Houten, what Hazel means to him.
“What else? She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.”

When Augustus and Hazel converse with each other.

“As he read, I feel in love the way you fall asleep: slow, and then all at once.”

“I’m a grenade and at some point I’m going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties, okay?”

“My thoughts are stars I can’t fathom into constellations.”
“That’s why I like you. Do you realize how rare it is to come across a hot girl who creates an adjectival version of the word pedophile? You are so busy being you that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are.”
“Come over here so I can examine your face with my hands and see deeper into your soul than a sighted person ever could.”
“I love you present tense.”

            When Augustus talks about pain.

That’s the thing about pain. It demands to be felt.”
When hazel explains that she might end up breaking his heart,  Augustus says,

“Oh, I wouldn’t mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”

The last one is how they choose their words which are just too good to be true.

“You gave me a forever within the numbered days and I can’t tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity”

There are many more which I can fill in, but I feel these are enough to showcase what the book actually does to you.

For any of you who have read the book and feel I missed out on some better lines (which I’m sure I did) do not hesitate in letting me know.

Why you must read "The Fault In Our Stars"

You believe in true love?
That kind of love which is unconditional.
Which has no boundaries.
All it does is entwining two hearts which beat as one.

The story of Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters is that type.

The love they share can be set as a benchmark for true love.

So what if they both met at cancer group?
So what if they both were terminally ill?
So what if both their lives were nothing less than a ticking time bomb?
So what if they fell in love?

Love can happen anywhere.
Love can happen to anyone.
Love is… waiting to be loved.

I don’ t want to divulge much of  the story here, and thus its my ardent request that you do read this whilst you have the opportunity.

Their story made me smile, made me ponder upon some thoughts and also got me welled up.

If you have ever loved somebody, this book belongs to you.

Out of all things i read, i just understood one thing.

Love, like your days are numbered, and that my dear friend will bring out the best in you.

Book Review – Sam's Letters To Jennifer By James Patterson

9780755305742

This is a good attempt by James Patterson.
A story full of love, full of emotions.
Right from the start, till the very end, its tough not to break down.
He has showed that crime and murder is one side of him, but he can too write a bit of romance and mystery.

The story is of Samantha (Sam)who is grandmother to Jennifer.
Jennifer has recently lost her husband Danny.
Sam had written her letters long back and Jennifer reads them whilst Sam is admitted in the hospital.

In the letters conceal a secret of Sam, and her life which through twists and turns made her what she is today.
Through her letters, she aims to make Jeniffer understand the love never dies, and that she should give love another chance.

This story has been drafted superbly.

One negative aspect of this story which i felt is that, such stories are too perfect to be true.
It just feels too perfect.
It might be possible, but too hard to digest.

My overall rating – 4/5

Key Of Knowledge By Nora Roberts

Book Review – Key Of Knowledge By Nora Roberts

With her new book “Key of Knowledge”, Nora Roberts has done it again.

After setting high standards with the first book “Key of Light” she has surpassed my expectations with the second book in the trilogy.

The first story had Malory who had 4 weeks to find the key which would unlock one of the 3 daughters whose souls have been locked since many millennia.

She had to outwit the villain “Kane” who had a major role in locking the king’s daughter’s souls. With the help of her friends Dana and Zoe, she finds the key. This is how the first book ends.

I eagerly waited to find this Nora Roberts new book which is the second one of this magical trilogy.

The second book focuses on Dana. She too has 4 weeks to find the key. The hint was given to her dealt with something related to her past, present, and her future.

SPOILERS BELOW:

If you wish to read the book, then I highly suggest that you stop reading anything mentioned below!

She realizes its Brad, her first and only love who could be part of that equation. After ups and downs, they confess their love to each other and try finding the key.

Kane on the other hand has crossed the ethical boundaries in this fight and will use all means to win, which means even death. He tries to kill Brad and Dana, turn by turn, but succumbs to their unity and is hurt.

Finally, Dana finds the key, and thus the second soul is unlocked. This book has got my inquisitiveness to a new extreme level and I am looking forward to buying the next book and find out how this ends.

If you like mystery, then do read this Nora Roberts series. The one thing that I appreciate about Nora Roberts book list is the uniqueness in it and the plot that holds your attention!

So, if you’re looking for an amazing read, Key of Knowledge Nora Roberts is what you must check out.
