S is for Saprodontia – A to Z Challenge 2019

Saprodontia is a story full of laughter and tears.

In 2017, I felt a sharp pain in one tooth which went on for two days. I just had enough of it and went to a doctor to check what the issue is.

The doctor mentioned an infection (Saprodontia) which has brutally affected my teeth. That infection is causing a sharp pain in one tooth.

One tooth? I asked.

“Yes” she said.

The upper tooth has now been affected by the infection from the lower tooth. (Saprodontia)

It’s very rare for me to make a face with actual shock written over it.

But hearing her say that 2 of my prized possessions are in danger was enough for me to feel like shit. I asked her for a solution. Maybe I begged her for it.

All she mentioned was that not taking care of my teeth, not brushing on time has allowed the infection to spread. Now the only solution is to pull out both of the teeth in order to save the remaining from infection.

“Two?” Are you sure? Why not just one? I whimpered.

The doc explained the complications. In the end, I was heartbroken. They called for a specialist and scheduled an appointment with him in 3 weeks.

Those were the longest 3 weeks for me. No painkiller helped me ease the pain. I couldn’t eat properly, drink properly and even sleep properly. Hell, I couldn’t even laugh without feeling the pain.

On the D-Day, the specialist who might have not even weighed above 60 kilos took just 15 minutes to pluck both my teeth, clean and stitch both the areas. I felt no pain. There was no swelling. Just relief.

What did I learn?

Teeth are important. Taking care of them is your duty. I lost two because of my negligence. Don’t be like me. Just take care of your teeth or else end up paying a good amount of money to your dentist.
